2020 Finalist in The Wishing Shelf Book Awards medal

Farewell, Everything is a post-flood magical realism tale of a nineteen-year-old nomad on the run from his troubled past – and then from the law. A whimsical allegory of time, memory, and the stories we tell ourselves.

This future-historical character study was named a 2020 finalist for adult fiction in The Wishing Shelf Book Awards.

Synopsis

In a world waking from a dark age, a young musician finds himself thousands of miles from home, covered in bruises, and falling in love.

And it’s only downhill from there.

Chronically clueless and incurably naïve, runaway street performer Osha Oloreben has known his share of hard knocks – but none like those he’s dealt in the city of Valena. Dragged into war and battered by disease, Osha unwittingly trades his life for a fever dream of half-truths and hidden realms. Helped and hindered by a cast of mystics, rebels, and ghosts, he struggles to reclaim his body, his identity, and reality itself – before it’s too late.

With humor and horror in equal measure, Farewell, Everything delves into the dissolution of a transforming mind. Stumbling through the stages of grief – denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance – our unlikely hero braves the surreal landscapes of love, loss, and death, from which no one emerges unchanged.

What readers are saying

A gorgeous and literary expression of sorrow, suffering and self-discovery in this poignant exploration of our soul’s deepest fears and desires.
K.C. Finn, Readers’ Favorite

Farewell, Everything is very well written, encapsulating the best things about magical realism and leaving readers enamored with the world built in its story.
Shannon Murphy, Reedsy Discovery

Honestly, it broke me, but the redemption truly lifted my entire spirit and shifted my overall perception of our place and role on this planet.
Ian S. Schneider, Amazon

This novel is engrossing and has strong psychological underpinnings. I found myself pitying the protagonist, then laughing at him, then cheering for him.
Jose Cornelio, Readers’ Favorite

I loved the book and the experience of reading each page, although it made me ache for Osha. There were times when I had to stop for a rest. As soon as I picked up the book again, I was reminded of the care and wit and poetic beauty that transmitted Osha's pain into me.

This book was reminiscent of a blues song. Wonderful characters!
